About Maharashtra Police Constable
The area that is now Mumbai was under Portuguese control from the 17th century until 1655. With the establishment of a Police outpost in 1661, the Portuguese established a fundamental structure for law enforcement in this region. In 1669, the then-Governor of Bombay, Gerald Aungier, organized a militia that would become the present-day Mumbai police. This Bhandari Civilian army was made out of around 500 men and was settled at Mahim, Sevree and Sion. In 1672, the legal outline of police choices by courts was presented, albeit none of the adjudicators had any genuine lawful training.[8] The circumstance stayed unaltered through the Maratha wars.
By 1682, policing had not changed much. For the entire Bhandari militia, there was only one ensign and three sergeants and two corporals. The Bombay Province Police and the Sind Province Police were separated in 1936. Following India’s independence in 1947, it changed its name to Bombay State Police. The Bombay State Police was divided into Gujarat Police, Mysore Police, which later became Karnataka Police, and Maharashtra Police as a result of the States Reorganisation Act of 1956.
